The complete name of this beautiful mission is Santa Maria Magdalena de Buquivaba, Mexico.
This church has gone through many changes before and after 1600. Maria Magdalena was the center point of a very small town Magdalena, tucked away in Sonora, North Mexico.
This small town and common adobe mission, would never have been of much importance if it was not for Eusebio Francisco Kino, a dedicated Jesuit priest from Segno, Italy. He became famous and well liked, because he changed a country of utter poverty and endless tribal bickering into peaceful, safe and thriving farms. He did this through spreading the word of God and rebuilding old missions into flourishing Christian churches. He had great support of the Upper Piman Indians and Father Agustin de Campo. |
